National Sobriety Day
Drink Responsibly

First you should plan your celebration. If your going to party until you drop then you should stay at home. In that case you should take a hard look at your drinking. You probably have a drinking problem. Now if your going out for a few drinks the most important people are the people your with because the people that you meet think you already have a plan with the people you came with. The people you go out with are the ones that will let you know if you're making a fool out of yourself or if there's something hanging out of your nose. For the most part when going out drinking you should always have a designated driver.

The drunken driving laws in every state are just to strick. There's always the one for one drinking. That's one bottle of water for every bottle of beer. After a full night of this you should still have a sober driver. The one for one drinking just cuts the odds in half of you making an ass out of yourself. Last of all if you don't have a sober driver please call a cab.

National Sobriety Day has other aspects such as people coming together for sober activities. Remembering A.A. co-founder Bill W. sober birthday. Showing problem drinkers it can be done and promoting alternative things to drink.

Our objective of this day is to encourage people to drink responsibly, while giving hope to the problem drinker to quit.

We wish to provide activities and information on what to do and what not to do on drinking.

How to Celebrate
National Sobriety Day

Well first off don't drink any alcohol and if you do please do it responsibly. Depending on location there's a variety of ways to celebrate. We welcome ideas at soberday.com also. The reason location is a factor is that National Sobriety Day falls on December 11. So that pretty much limits the northern states to indoor activities. Or maybe a cross-country ski race.

The southern states are almost open to anything from picnics to hot air balloon rides. The professional sports in December are football and basketball. While the nation plans its activities for December 11 there's promotional items such as badges and ribbons to be worn. So lets promote this very special day this year. Be a part of National Sobriety Day.

Excessive Drinking

Excessive drinking among our people is causing untold damage to themselves and to society. It's a well-known fact that excessive drinking can be deadly. More than two drinks a day for men and more than one drink a day for women characterize excessive drinking. Alcohol is readily available and most people enjoy drinking without problems. Drinking can be divided into four categories:
  • Drinking once in a while
  • Drinking regularly
  • Drinking a bit to much
  • Problem drinking
Excessive drinking is associated with physical Problems, psychological disorders, violence (including sexual assaults) and accidents. There may be deeper underlying problems that lead to problem drinking. It is known that depression and heavy drinking often go hand in hand. While this may relieve the symptoms of Depression in the short term, it may worsen them in the long term.
